A 31-year-old man has been arrested following a shocking shooting incident at the high-profile White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., sending political leaders and journalists scrambling for safety.
The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, is reportedly a teacher from Torrance, California. Authorities believe he acted alone, with early investigations suggesting no wider threat to the public after his arrest.
The incident unfolded outside a ballroom at the Hilton Hotel Washington DC, where the prestigious event was taking place. Witnesses described a sudden eruption of gunfire, triggering panic among attendees.
Multiple Weapons Recovered As Shots Fired
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect was heavily armed, allegedly carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives. Reports indicate that between seven and eight shots were fired during the incident.
A witness claimed the suspect retrieved a weapon from a bag moments before opening fire. The situation escalated quickly as attendees dived under tables while security personnel rushed to evacuate key figures.
Among those escorted to safety were former U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. All were reported to be unharmed.
