What individual traits do you find attractive in Singaporeans?
On Hofstede’s cultural masculinity-femininity dimension, Singapore scores in the middle of the scale but leans more toward a feminine society. (This means that we value things like quality of life, caring for others, equality, and fluid gender roles; while masculine societies value competition, success, achievement, prestige, and honour.)
As a Singaporean, what are some traits of individuals do you find yourself being drawn to? not just in a romantic partner, but can be people in the workplace or schools, acquaintances, or even people in the service line.
I’ll start — I find people who are passionate, humble, empathetic, and have a natural curiosity for life (& of others) particularly attractive.
like the toast box auntie who makes amazing teh-o & always asks how my day is going, & makes my teh-o extra gao when I look tired.

- The ability to point out negative stuff/criticism in a gentle manner without beating the bush. Something I am still learning.
- Assertive people who stand their ground without losing their temper. Towards strangers or family members. Also plus points if they call out hypocrisy.
- Funny people -> those who see things a bit light-heartedly (I don’t mean this in the sense of treating life with a cavalier attitude, but rather individuals who have the sensibility to approach situations cheerily and with some appropriate humour to inject a sense of levity and perspective hot dog fingers)
Empathetic people (particularly those who can distinguish between ‘empathy’ and ‘sympathy’, and furthermore call upon the latter under the right circumstances -> I think this also shows humility in acknowledging that we can’t be empathetic towards all matters)
Hardworking people -> I like it when people adopt a philosophy that e.g. if you study and work hard, you have every fair chance to succeed in life (esp. at a time when faith in the ethos of meritocracy in sg is showing signs of waning)
Kind people -> One time when I was at Ng Teng Fong A & E, the aircon was blowing Arctic winds in the wee hours…one girl (a patient herself) took notice of this too, went the whole floor asking if anyone was cold, proceeded to obtain blankets at the counter and subsequently distributed them [wham! attraction + 10000%]
