A couple of days ago, my best friend (22M) confessed to me that he had a crush on me. I love this guy as my bestest friend ever but honestly, I have absolutely zero feelings for him. I tried letting him down gently. Told him that his confession does not affect our friendship at all and I am ready to give him some time apart so that he can process his feelings.
Unfortunately, he simply did not back down. He kept saying that he just wants one date with me and then if my mind does not change even after that then he will give up. He has literally been requesting this nonstop for the past 5 days so I gave in finally.
My only condition was, “look, this is most probably not gonna work out and this date doesn’t sound like the best idea to me but I’ll go since you insist so much. I want the date to be your treat though since you are the one who keeps pushing. You owe me some money from that takeout we shared last week anyway.”
He agreed and we went on the date last evening. Like I said, I don’t have feelings for him. I treated it like a friendly evening out with my best friend. Towards the end of the meal, he looked at me with this “well?” expression so I just decided to be honest again.
“Like I said, I’m not into you. I had a wonderful evening with you and value you as my best friend but a relationship with you just isn’t gonna work out.”
Well, he got pissed asf. He kept begging first and then started whispering, um, kind of menacingly? I just told him I’m not feeling very comfortable so could he please pick up the tab so that I could go home?
He refused!
He said that since I had let him down, I should be the one paying for the ENTIRE meal. Now mind you, I hadn’t ordered anything expensive as such but he had gotten the most exorbitantly priced dish on the menu along with a ridiculously overpriced dessert. I was NOT paying hundreds of dollars for food I hadn’t touched.
I didn’t wanna create a scene in the restaurant so I didn’t bother arguing with him. I excused myself to the washroom and snuck out of the restaurant.
Now he’s been texting me since the morning about how I’m a gold digger who used him and broke his heart. I’m starting to doubt my actions and feel bad for hurting him because he was my best friend after all.
