Jason Chia Jun Jie, 40-years-old, was disqualified from driving after being involved in two unrelated fatal accidents in 2008 and 2014.
He was then caught driving a car last year and lied to the police officer, claiming to be his brother – but little did he know that his brother was wanted by the police at the time.
Chia ended up being arrested.
He pleaded guilty to one count of driving without insurance, one count of driving while being disqualified, and one count of providing a public servant with false information.
He was sentenced on 13 December to 9 weeks imprisonment and fined $5,000 on top of being disqualified from driving all vehicles for 20 years.
What happened?
Chia was driving illegally along Lorong 12 Geylang on 2 November 2020 at around 11am when he was stopped by a policeman performing checks.
Chia then told the policeman that he didn’t have his NRIC, and wrote down his brother’s details on a paper before handing it to the policeman.
The policeman then screened his brother’s particulars and it showed that he was wanted, Chia was then arrested.
He then admitted that he gave the police officer false information.
