GUY FAKES HIS LIFESTYLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA, KAYSIAO “INVITED TO PARTIES” BUT IS HE SHOW UP HIMSELF

How far do people go to fake their lifestyle social media?

I understand that people always try to portray that best side of themselves on social media, but where do you draw the line between showing your good side and deception?

How far do people actually go to fake a persona online?

I have a classmate who‘a working as an air steward and his stories will always start with something like “Me having dinner with my crew say hello everybody!!” and he will pan the camera to everyone waving.

But another friend of ours who is also an air stewardess said that no one actually invited him cause he is a pain to be around with but he will causally invite himself.

He spends 90% of the time talking about himself and his luxury purchases and people weren’t having it. And after the cameras are off, people will engage in their own conversations and he will be left alone at the table.

Even when they head out to explore the country or visit tourist attractions, they wouldn’t invite him but for some reasons he’ll “coincidentally” be there with the rest.

And my favourite fake persona of all time, the one who cried wolf about being poor. TSKTSK.

Do you have people you know who go all out to fake a persona? How or what did they do?

Netizens’ comments

  1. Which is why I don’t bother checking up people on social media. People only put their best moments on there. Had a colleague who seemed to be in such a loving relationship as per his social media and then suddenly he got divorced.
  2. *Ahem* insurance agents *ahem*
  3. Had an ex-friend who used to post about how great her life is but when I ask her other friends, they mention that shes barely scraping by. Never believe those stories of people who have 100% great life and 0% hardships.
  4. Think of it this way, you will usually post about something you rarely do, so it is special to you.
If you gym everyday, its unlikely you will post about yourself gymming.
If I wake up early everyday to run, I wouldnt post about it, but if that morning I decided to wake up early to run, I might post about it to commemorate the occasion.
If you eat cafe food everyday, its unlikely you will post about cafe food. Its like we dont post hawker food, but when we go cafe we post the food. because its a ‘special’ occasion. Its not us faking that we eat cafe food often but actually eat hawker everyday but only post cafe food.
I eat lunch everyday with my colleagues, so i dont post about eating with them. But when I meet up with my friend who maybe i meet once a month/quarter, I might make a post.
