GUY FOUND A LOST KID CRYING ALONE, HE ALSO LOST BECAUSE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Found a lost kid. What is the proper procedure?

Found a kid standing alone near traffic light. My gut feeling told me something wrong, so I approached the kid (around 5-6 years old).

He started crying and just pointed to the direction of mall. I assumed he is lost, so I decided to bring the kid to MRT and explained to station staffs. Traffic light is just between MRT station and the mall.

One of the station staff came out and said he will take it from there. So, I gave the kid to the staff and then I left coz I was late for appointment.

Did I do the right thing? What is the proper procedure for this?

1. Yes you did the right thing. Good on you for sensing something was wrong and escorting the kid to a safe place with trusred personnel! Hopefully the parents will go to the station to look for their child.
2. Had that happen a couple of years ago. It was awful because the kid was terrified of everyone and ran away from anyone who approached him (including me). I was really worried he was going to run out into the traffic.
   I called 999 right away while I followed him from a short distance. I tried to get help from some passers by but everyone seemed to assume I was the father and didn’t want to get involved. A few minutes later and he moved on to a playground, spotted his helper and it was all over.
3. You were late, so that was the best you could do. If you had more time, you could have brought the kid to the mall customer service (all the while looking out for frantic parents) where the staff can make the PA announcement to let the parents know that their missing kid has been found. You can also try asking if the kid knows his parents phone number. Sometimes they are taught to memorize this in kindergarten.
