My Job Interview Experience

I recently went for a job interview for a position I had been dreaming about. I was excited and nervous at the same time.

One of the questions the interviewer asked me was about my current drawn salary with my current employer.

Decided to ‘upsell’ my current drawn salary and told them that I was drawing $500 more than what I was actually drawing

I had been earning a low salary at my current job and I felt that if I was honest with them, they will try to lowball me and offer me around the same or just slightly higher than what I was getting.

That was not what I wanted of course, I wanted a raise of at least $500 to $1,000 in this job hop and so I decided to lie and declared that I earn $500 more than what I was actually earning.

I was not sure whether my lie was going to work or not but I had to give it a shot.

It paid off, the company offered me $500 more than the amount which I declared to them and so i got $1,000 more than my previous job

I received a call from the company’s HR a few days later and they said that they were pleased to offer me the job and when it came to the salary part, they offered me a $500 increase of what I told them I was earning.

I was ecstatic and couldn’t believe my luck. I was relieved that I had taken the risk of lying and it had paid off. I was so happy that I had managed to get a raise of $1,000 in one go just by lying about my previous salary.
