GUY LOVES HIS JOB SO MUCH, AFTER WORK STILL LEARNING HOW TO BECOME BETTER AT IT

Those who genuinely like their jobs and look forward to going to work, what do you do?

I believe many people here just view their jobs as a way to earn money and put food on the table. I rmb some time back, there were some articles saying singapore is full of zombie employees.

So it is always refreshing to hear of someone who genuinely enjoy their job.

My cousin is one. He is a software engineer and programming and coding is in his blood. In fact he started learning at 12.

He loves his job so much that he’d use his time after work and on weekends to learn new stuff on it and he could solve many problems that others can’t. He’s doing very well and was promoted to senior positions well ahead of his peers.

People who truly love their jobs (other than for the salary and benefits), what do you do and why?

Netizens’ comments

  1. I work at a very boring office desk bound job but I love it.
This is because I am an introvert and the nature of my job is such that I do not need to interact with anyone. I work alone. I have lunch alone. I do everything alone. At most, I may have to attend Zoom meeting once in a while and I don’t even need to turn on the camera – which is great!
  2. I used to work in a hardware tech company doing data analytics and I loved it. Didnt have Monday blues for 3 years at least. Was such a joy to go to work everyday! But i have since left after 5 years due to certain factors.. and in my current co, im dreading it even tho its similar scope. Haha
  3. I’m an Assisstant Professor and I run a Master course. My course is delivered online and after hours, for part time students. So my dept has agreed to allow me to work from home. They bought a wide screen monitor for me and I only go to campus when I have in-person meetings (1-2 times a week).
I love teaching and learning more about the subject I teach. I love the discussions and facilitating learning between my students and experts in the field. I love the ability to network without needing to leave home and above all I love the flexibility my job offers. If I am not teaching, I can bring my laptop anywhere and work. i have young children so sometimes I can work around their needs. I can bring my wife out for meals whenever she is not working and there is no need for me to apply for time off cause I can simply work more to make up the hours.
The drawback is the admin work involved. Running a master course without much admin help can get rather tiresome. But I guess the perks outweigh the negatives. I love my job and won’t trade it with what I’ve done before.
  4. Doing audio for live events and live recordings. small company of 5. Basically already knew 3 of them including my boss so we’re all like friends working tgt. Good work culture too with each dept helping out so everyone heads home earlier too.
  5. In tech wfh 4-6 hours a day, reading documentations included. Just laying on my back reading and do some reports. Pay’s not great but im done with rat race.
