Muhammad Fitri Muhammad Hozir Bonawi, 26, was sentenced to 15 months jail and 3 strokes of the cane after he pretended to keep an 11-year-old girl safe by accompanying her as she ran away from home; he then molested her.
Fitri pleaded guilty to one molestation charge.
The girl reportedly left her home a few days before the incident last year after falling out with her stepmother.
The victim was sleeping at a HDB void deck at Bedok Reservoir on 16 January when Fitri woke her up and advised her not to sleep there.
The girl then told him that she was kicked out of her house and Fitri then suggested to her that she slept in the rooftop garden on top of a multi-storey carpark instead.
The girl followed him to the rooftop and was reportedly uncomfortable when she realised that Fitri would be spending the night with her.
They left the carpark at about 2.30am to go to a fastfood restaurant and returned to the rooftop garden at about 3.30am, where they lay next to each other with a gap between the two.
The girl soon fell asleep at around 6am but she was woken up by the sensation of Fitri touching her groin.
She told him to stop and Fitri stopped, she then went back to sleep.
But after fell back asleep, Fitri resumed touching her, after which the victim decided not to sleep anymore and sat up.
Fitri then hugged and kissed her on the lips.
The girl then told a friend about the incident and they reported the incident to the police.
Fitri was arrested on 3 February last year.
