The owner of a shop in Yishun shared on his Facebook a few days ago about a theft that occurred in his shop, urging the thief to own up and return the money that he took.
The shop owner, Jeya Seelan, appealed to the thief and told him that he doesn’t wish to make a police report to ruin his future.
The thief then returned to the shop yesterday (5 June) with the money that he stole and returned it to the owner.
Jeya shared that the perpetrator, accompanied by his friend, visited his shop to return the money.
He was described as being in “some level of discomfort and cried while apologising profusely, as his friend tried to calm him down.
Jeya said that the guy’s apology was accepted and that he saw that the guy was repentant in his eyes.
The man’s friend transferred the stolen $800 to Jeya, and the initial Facebook post about the theft was subsequently taken down.
He (Jeya) considers the matter closed.
Jeya also encouraged those who are going through a tough time and need groceries for free to reach out to him, and he promised he won’t probe.
He said: “It’s okay to ask for help, it really is. We are all in this together.”
