A guy was seen in a viral video last year, throwing a signboard that hit a child who was with her mother, before fleeing the scene.
The mother and child were walking along the side of the road at the time when the man who was wearing black then threw a signboard which ended up hitting the child.
The guy then ran away as the little girl started crying.
The mother then picked up her young daughter and confronted the other guy in white, who was with the aggressor, saying “YOU CANNOT DO THAT! WHAT’S YOUR NAME? IC NUMBER?! I’m CALLING THE POLICE!”
However, the man in white simply ignored the mother and proceeded to pick up the sign, before walking away as though nothing happened.
The incident happened last year on 8 November at about 8.30pm, along Keong Saik Road.
Issued stern warnings
The police also previously released a statement, saying that officers had spotted two teenagers at Serangoon MRT station holding onto a “wet floor” signboard at about 9.30pm on the same day.
Investigations into the incident culminated in the police releasing a statement earlier today (26 January), saying that the teenager had apparently “wanted to play a prank on his friend” and snuck up to his friend from behind and hit the signboard from his hand, before running away.
The signboard was then sent flying out of his hand and hit the child who was standing near him.
He had apparently didn’t realise that the girl was hit and reportedly didn’t intend to hit the child.
The statement said that the guy was “apologetic for the harm and distress caused to the child” and he had written a note of apology to both the mother and child, as well as offering to make full payment of the child’s medical expenses.
He was issued with a stern warning.
The guy’s friend who was holding the sign was also issued with a stern warning – he had picked up the signboard along Keong Saik Road, which was an offence of dishonest misappropriation of property.
