GUY’S MUM TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID, STILL ROAMING AROUND THEIR HOME

A netizen shared how his mother tested positive for Covid but she is still roaming around the house without a mask and not isolating in the room.

Here is the story

My mom was ART+ today morning. She claimed that she has ‘mild’ symptoms so she did not see a doc and self isolated at home.

However, she roams around the house as she pleases, and when I came home from school today, she was sitting on the living room sofa, mask-free, watching TV. I was shocked bc when I had Covid 3 months ago (last yr nov), I isolated in my room for 2 weeks, even when I was ART- for the last few days.

When asked, my mom told me that the gov isnt as strict as last time (she believes so as the gov now encourages to not see a doc and stay at home to self-isolate when its only mild symptoms). However, I still felt off.

Hence, my question here is, is it normal for my mom to be acting per normal? Does self-isolating only means not going OUT of the house, but able to roam arnd the house mask-free?

P.S. She claims to have mild symptoms but she has the usual sore throat & cough.

  • No. Self isolating means staying in her own room with a connected bathroom. She can only come out to common areas if no one is around / get food etc although should avoid doing that as much as possible as it exposes you and your family to the virus.

You were under Isolation Order by law and Home Recovery Programme. There were specific instructions on how to isolate in your own room.

  • Your mom is under Protocol 2 and there’s no Isolation Order. Even if she leaves the house for non-medical reasons, she can’t really get caught. She could deny having done an ART. So staying home is already being compliant.

Some families may wish to just get it over and done with and not take preventive measures within the home. By the time someone tests ART-positive, the rest of the family has already been exposed during the past 1-2 days. As far as I can tell, you’re allowed to make this choice within your entire home.

Especially if you recovered 3 months ago, you are at quite low risk. Are there others at home who never got Covid before, or are vulnerable?
