A fried carrot cake stall at Ang Mo Kio caught the attention of netizes for charging an extra 50 cents to $1 for her black carrot cake.
The stall, located at a hawker centre at Block 341 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, has been in the business for 26 years, and are selling the “char kway” in 3 portion sizes – small, medium and large.
Their white version is priced at $3, 3.50 and $6 respectively, while the black one is priced at $3.50, $4 and $7 respectively.
The 60-year-old lady boss of the stall, spoke to Shin Min Daily News to explain her pricing, saying that the sweet sauce that she uses is better and it’s very expensive.
She added that one bottle costs more than $10, and that if she keeps the price the same as the white version, she will lose money.
She also added that the fish sauce that she uses is different from the other stalls and that the price is almost twice of the usual price.
