In a recent incident on 19 September at about 7.30pm that sent shockwaves through social media, an e-bike rider was caught crashing into a child who was crossing the road at the time.

The Startling Dashcam Footage

The traffic lights at the junction were flashing a green man for the pedestrials to cross, and a young boy was seen in the video crossing the road with two adults, presumably his parents.

He then appeared to have dropped something and attempted to pick it up, when the ebike rider then runs him over and caused him to fall and roll backwards onto the ground.

Immediate Reaction

The parents then rushed over immediately to check on the boy, and the agitated mother then confronted the rider and hit him while gesturing angrily at the green man on the traffic light.

Fortunately, despite the alarming nature of the accident, the child did not appear to suffer any serious injuries and got up pretty quickly after the accident, although he appeared to be quite shaken by what happened.

Netizens’ comments

This is what happens when you don’t ban bicycles from the roads.

  • It’s time to ban all bicycles, regardless of electric or not
  • totally agreed! Ban all bicycles and PMD. My child was also almost knock by a speeding bicycle at a small road. I must admit that I didn’t hold my child. He was walking in the front….. but the bike was coming in too fast like a ghost.
  • If they can get away with it so easily, this kind of accident will occur more and more.
  • Totally no responsibility at all. If it’s a motorcycle, police report made, insurance called. If it’s a bicycle, “eh sorry sorry, I’m so sorry” *ride away* gone. Without a trace, no plate number, nothing.
  • Please send the video to police as evidence, the victim shld report, the rider should be charged for that act, irresponsible for road safety and holigant shall not on our road.
