According to Hong Kong 01, the Consumer Council’s latest issue of “Choice” magazine reported that the alcohol content of the tested beers ranged from 3% to 8%. The tests primarily focused on the nutritional value, safety, and quality of these beers.

Harbin Beer was found to contain mycotoxins, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and even fever within 30 minutes of consumption. The manufacturer of Harbin Beer stated that the product has only been produced and sold on the mainland, including imports to Hong Kong and sales.

Additionally, the Consumer Council discovered that all tested beers contained biogenic amines, which are byproducts of the alcohol fermentation process. Cooper’s Brewery and Carlsberg beers were found to contain the highest levels of biogenic amines. Consuming excessive amounts of biogenic amines can lead to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and respiratory distress, and in severe cases, brain hemorrhage.

In conclusion, the Consumer Council’s findings serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and due diligence when consuming alcoholic beverages. It is crucial to ensure that the products are safe and of high quality, and to be aware of the potential risks and consequences of consuming beers with high levels of mycotoxins and biogenic amines.
