An international student shared his/her life studying in Singapore and asked for others to understand their difficulties in adapting.
Here is the story:
“I am a third year international student. We stay away from our families for months, we struggle to make local friends and Covid has made our lives 10 times harder.
For most of us, we just want to survive and thrive in this country.
So when we don’t speak the English you are used to hearing or have different perspectives on how to handle things or aren’t able to catch a bit off Singlish – please understand how different and overwhelming all of this is for us.
A bunch of us come from developing nations where things clearly aren’t perfect. Don’t judge us by the progress our countries have or haven’t made.
Please don’t pass hurtful remarks about the places we come from. It just makes us feel like we aren’t welcome.
It makes us want to go back home.”
Editor’s note: Hang in there buddy.
