The Singapore Health Sciences Authority published a report on 23 February detailing the number of “serious adverse events” after Covid vaccinations in children aged between 5 to 11.
According to the HSA’s report via Mothership, there were 10 cases of children between the above-mentioned age group who experienced serious adverse events.
As seen in a report by HSA, they described serious adverse events as including seizures, a drop in blood pressure, an allergic reaction, swelling of small blood vessels, among others.
HSA further explained that the serious side effects were not necessarily caused by the vaccine as “they may be related to an underlying or undiagnosed disease or it may be coincidental that they occurred around the same time that the vaccine was given”.
They added that they are “closely monitoring the adverse events reported in children and is assessing them in the context of background incidence rates.”
The serious adverse events for the 5-11 age group stand at about 0.004 percent of the doses that have been administered, and there have been no reported cases of myocarditis or pericarditis.
As of the end of January this year, about 238,253 doses of the vaccine have been administered to children between 5 to 11, of which there were 280 reports of non-serious adverse events, such as fever, rash, dizziness, shortness of breath and etcetera.
