And then in June, another 100 international flights will be added per week, on top of the ones added in May; followed by another 300 in July.

At the moment, South Korea is only serving 420 international flights, as compared to 4,714 before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jeon said in a statement that “demand for overseas visits is expected to increase, as countries that have passed the peak of the Omicron wave have eased quarantine policies.”

The Covid-19 cases in South Korea have been on the decline for about 3 weeks, and the country is ridding most of their restrictions later this month.

The mandatory wearing of masks outdoors will also be dropped, after the country dropped their vaccine mandates and the quarantining of incoming vaccinated international travelers.

South Korea reported about 286,294 new cases on Tuesday, a sharp decline in cases since their record 621,328 daily cases in March.

Korean Air’s shares also rose by 1.6 percent following the latest announcement.
