A total of six cases of smullging of duty-unpaid merchandise was foiled by the ICA.
The first one that caught our eyes was the man with a suspicious bulge in his pants.
A man was caught on the 11 of September 2019, A 39-year-old Malaysian man with a suspicious bulge in his pants. After he was caught by the officer’s attention, they soon discovered a total of 10 packs of cigarettes that are wrap around his lower parts of his body.
In another case a 55-year-old Romanian attempted to bring in 40 packets of cigarettes but was discovered via the scanning of his luggage
There were four other cases of Singaporeans and one Russian national that attempted to bring in duty unpaid cigarettes with various methods such as hiding the cigartees underneath clothing such as waist ankles and even socks and boots!
This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore. The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security.
