ICA OFFICER FOUND 10,600 STICKS OF CONTRABAND CIGS HIDDEN IN TYRES

On June 21, 2021, officials from the ICA’s Pasir Panjang Scanning Station thwarted an attempt to smuggle duty-free cigarettes hidden within a shipment of tyres labeled as “vehicle accessories.”

ICA officials sent the cargo for supervised unstuffing at the importer’s facilities after seeing certain abnormalities in the scanned picture of a 40ft shipping container, and duty-unpaid cigarettes were discovered concealed in the tyres.

A total of 530 packages equivalent to 10,600 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes were confiscated and the matter was forwarded to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
