ICA: PASSPORT RENEWAL AT LEAST 1 MONTH PROCESSING DUE TO OVERWHELMING APPLICATIONS

Due to the overwhelming amount of applicants, The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has stated that there will be delays in processing. This surge comes after travelling is not less restrictive.

On their website, they state “ICA has received high number of passport applications. We seek your understanding that more time will be required to process your passport applications. “

Previously ICA responded to Channel News Asia in a media response stating that daily applications have grown 3 times to 6,000 daily applications a day compared to 2,000 during pre pandemic.

ICA added that this is due to 1 million passports that are expiring or expired.

How to renew?

The easiest way to renew a passport is through their E-service where everything can be done online, after the passport is ready, Singaporeans can collect passports form Singpost.

There are a total of 27 post offices island that are able to perform the collection.

”  To provide added convenience to members of the public and encourage more people to collect their Singapore passport and/or IC at various locations island-wide, Singapore residents will no longer need to pay SingPost an additional collection fee from 1 October 2021, if they choose to collect their documents at the 27 designated post offices. ICA will bear the cost. “
