Overboard to have cigs under board
On 20 Oct, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle a total of 1,492 cartons of assorted duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden within the floorboard of a lorry into Singapore.
The Malaysia-registered lorry transporting granite arrived at Woodlands Checkpoint around 4pm and was referred by ICA officers for further checks.
During the course of checks, officers pried open the floorboard and uncovered the duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The case was referred to the Singapore Customs for investigations.
This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle arms and explosives to carry out attacks in Singapore. The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers, goods and vehicles to safeguard Singapore’s security.
