ILLEGAL BOOKIE & WANNABE GODS OF GAMBLING CAUGHT FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING @ YISHUN

The Singapore Police Force is actively investigating three individuals, ranging in age from 36 to 74, on suspicions of participating in illegal gambling operations.

The arrests were made on August 13, 2023, by officers from the Woodlands Police Division during targeted enforcement operations in the vicinity of Yishun Street 22.

A 36-year-old man was apprehended on allegations of operating as a bookmaker, while two men, aged 72 and 74, are currently assisting authorities with investigations for their alleged involvement in placing bets with the aforementioned bookmaker.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized over $630 in cash, along with a mobile phone and a tablet. These items are believed to be connected to the illicit gambling activities under investigation.

The suspects are facing potential legal consequences under the recently enacted Gambling Control Act of 2022. According to the act, individuals found guilty of participating in unlawful betting operations may face fines of up to $200,000 and a maximum prison term of five years. Additionally, those who gamble with unlicensed gambling service providers could be subject to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a period of no more than six months, or a combination of both penalties.

THREE MEN UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING ACTIVITIES

The Police are investigating three men, aged between 36 and 74, for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling activities.

On 13 August 2023, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted enforcement operations against illegal gambling activities in the vicinity of Yishun Street 22. A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly acting as a bookmaker and two men, aged 72 and 74, are assisting in investigations for allegedly placing bets with the bookmaker. Cash amounting to more than $630, one mobile phone and one tablet were seized.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
