ILLEGAL BOOKIES & GAMBLERS RAIDED BY POLICE @ YISHUN, $2.3K IN CASH SEIZED

About 7 people between the ages of 48 and 75 are under investigation by the Singapore Police Force for illegal betting activities following an enforcement operation.

The enforcement operation was conducted on 17 August by officers from Woodlands Police Division around Yishun Street 1.

The police said that a 75-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman were allegedly found to have acted as a gambling service provider to 4 other men between the ages of 48 and 72.

Another 61-year-old man was also allegedly found to have been involved in illegal betting activities with another gambling service provider.

They added that about $2,280 in cash, as well as 7 mobile phones, were also seized during the operation as case exhibits.

Persons found guilty of being involved in illegal betting operations, face a jail term of up to 5 years and a fine of up to $200,000 under the Gambling Control Act 2022.

Persons found guilty of gambling with an illegal gambling service provider, face a jail term of up to 6 months and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

The police also added that they take a serious view of all forms of illegal gambling and will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved.
