INJURED WOMAN FOUND IN POLICE RAID @ BUGIS HOTEL, 5 ARRESTED & 2 WEAPONS SEIZED

The Singapore Police Force arrested 2 women and 3 men between the ages of 16 to 23 on Monday (27 March) for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, according to The Straits Times.

One of the women, a 19-year-old who was arrested with the group, was found injured and conveyed to the hospital conscious.

She was with a 16-year-old male teenager and another 23-year-old woman, who were both arrested for suspected drug offences; along with 2 other arrested men aged 18 and 22.

The Singapore Police Force said that they received a call for help on 27 March at about 11.50 am, with witnesses saying that they saw police officers and forensics personnel at the Rest Bugis Hotel in the afternoon, located at 8 Jalan Kubor.

A witness working nearby, 42-year-old Ms Allen Tong who works as a manager of a cafe that is opposite the hotel, told The Straits Times that she arrived at her cafe in the afternoon, and she saw a lot of police in the vicinity.

She added that she later saw the police officers escorting a person sporting blonde hair out of the hotel with handcuffs on their wrists.

Another witness who works nearby as an executive chef for several restaurants in the area, 39-year-old Mr Giorgio Cetkovic, said that he saw the police officers donning gloves and searching the back alleys of the area, at Jalan Kubor.

He said that the workers from the different eateries nearby had gone out to see what was happening but they didn’t know what was going on.

Cetkovic added that the police officers appeared to be looking for something in the back alleys, and also trying to retrieve CCTV security footage.

The police officers later found two weapons believed to be sharp objects in the area.

Another witness who works at a hostel near the scene said that he was approached by the police officers with a list of IC numbers and names and asking if any of the persons on that list had been staying at his hostel, but according to the hostel’s records, none of them had stayed there.

According to ST, one of the arrested persons was an 18-year-old Indonesian man, with the rest of the arrested suspects being Singaporeans.

Police investigations are currently ongoing, and persons found guilty of causing hurt with a weapon face a jail term of up to 7 years, a fine and caning.
