I am a insurance agent and have been in the insurance industry for almost 10 years.
I would like to share a story of how I used my insurance agent role to lie to my then wife and how I got caught and eventually got divorced.
Being an insurance agent is not a bed of roses
Life as an insurance agent is not as easy as what you see on social media with agents getting all sorts of wards like MDRT or COT. It involves a lot of hard work to get there and because I put a lot of time in my work, my relationship with my wife began to drift apart ever since.
I had been feeling distant from my wife for a while now. Our conversations were limited to mundane topics and our s- life had become almost non-existent because of my work as an insurance agent and she couldn’t understand me.
Decided to find ‘services’ to seek comfort
I was craving excitement and passion, something that I felt was missing in my marriage. So, I turned to the internet in search of a solution, you know those websites with women offering their ‘services’.
After browsing through various websites and profiles, I finally found a lady who seemed to fit my needs. Her pictures were alluring and her services offered were exactly what I was looking for.
Without a second thought, I made the arrangements and headed to the designated location.
As I approached the said location of our meetup, I could feel the adrenaline rush through my body. This was something I had never done before and I was both nervous and excited. The woman, who introduced herself as “name redacted” was stunning.
She had a seductive smile and I could feel my heart racing as she welcomed me in the room.
We engaged in some small talk and eventually, I couldn’t resist her any longer. We indulged in the services that I had paid for and it was everything I had hoped for and more. As I left the room, I couldn’t help but feel satisfied and guilty at the same time.
Little did I know that my actions were being ‘watched’.
My wife, who had been suspicious of me had followed me. She had been monitoring my internet browsing activities and she was devastated.
Lied that I was there to review her insurance portfolio
As soon as I walked out of the lobby, she confronted me with tears in her eyes. I was caught off guard and my mind was racing for an excuse. In a moment of panic, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind – I was there to review the lady’s portfolio as she was one of my insurance clients.
To my surprise, my wife believed me. She was relieved that I had a legitimate reason for coming here to meet her and I could see the trust in her eyes again. I felt a sense of relief wash over me, but at the same time, I knew that I had just dug myself into a deeper hole.
From that day on, I started to feel guilty every time I looked at my wife. She believed my lie and I was constantly living in fear that she would find out the truth.
I couldn’t enjoy the company of my wife without feeling like a fraud.
As expected, the truth eventually came out. A few weeks after the incident, my wife received a call from a mutual friend who had seen me hanging around Geylang and going in and out of the houses.
My wife was devastated and felt betrayed by my lie. She couldn’t believe that I had been unfaithful and had lied to her face, especially with a crappy excuse like they were my insurance clients.
The trust in our marriage was shattered and there was no going back. My wife filed for divorce and I found myself alone, regretting my actions. I had lost the love of my life because of my selfish desires.
