I can’t believe how sexist are guys within my family and workplace.
My own cousin told me using a make-up is “woman’s instinct” because “woman feels the need to be beautiful”. That triggered me– but I kept my calm. Woman’ instinct? Hah. Fine, it’s not only woman– men also have the instinct to “feel handsome” right? Don’t make me laugh.
I already feel beautiful even without my make up. It’s my choice to put on make up or not. And mind you, I already feel good with no make-up on my face! You don’t like it? Take it or leave it.
Now I’m having internship at a factory of a palm-oil company, and another co-worker with managerial position didn’t take me seriously when I asked for help to measure impeller size and told me to “pray to God” for the pump to stop working first. If that is meant to be a joke, it is certainly not a pleasing joke to me, since he implicitly saying “I can’t help you” in a sarcastic manner.
Probably if I’m more ‘beautiful’ and with ‘lady-like demeanour’ he might have taken me more seriously.
Yes, I’m a woman, I’m a lady. But that doesn’t mean I have to be harrassed, or discriminated, or even classified in this manner.
