Hello, I’m working as IT support as an Intern.
Basically i got fired because my employer “assumed” I’m not happy with my work and he feel that my unhappiness will bring the team down.
He had a meeting with my lecturer and told my lecturer that he doesn’t want me to know about the meeting.
He then told my lecturer that he doesn’t want to deal with me or be responsible for my grade. He assumed the worst of me and refused to talk to me about anything that he disliked about me.
Since day 1 I’ve completed every single task, he asked of me. My technical skill is really good, even better than my senior as I’ve taught him a lot of stuff. We were quite cool with each other, we had good chat and I told him i like this job really much.
He said he wants me to be more proactive and show more seriousness in work and so I told him that my soft skill may not be good but I will try my best to improve them. After that, I started to be more proactive and asked for work every single time i can, i also stopped joking around which made him think that I’m unhappy and told my lecturer that he doesn’t want me in the company anymore.
What should i do about it?
Here are what netizens think:
- Assuming what you said is true your employer is just being a cb or he/she is being fed some bull. What you may want to do is to sit down have a meeting with your employer to trash things out. Anyway it’s an intern position, don’t lose too much sleep over it and try to find another one internship.
- Your lecturer definitely finds it ridiculous that’s why he/she decided to let you know about it. Without a valid serious offence (such as awol, which one of my fellow intern friends did and get fired by the company because she can’t get along with the rest of the staff in her department), the company cannot dismiss an intern just like that… consult your school & ask the company to fully explain this situation.
- there’s no such thing as wrongful dismissal, unless you in USA la, SG here… employee powers are next to nothing.
