Moorthy Nagappan, 65-years-old, pleaded guilty to 3 charges of harassment and one count of causing annoyance to others while drunk in a public place, he was sentenced on 27 December to five weeks jail.
Previous offence
He was fined $1,000 for causing annoyance to others while drunk and he reoffended again with his latest offense.
Moorthy had used vulgarities on a police officer and bus driver while drunk.
Reoffended
On 28 March earlier this year, Moorthy, who works as a cleaner, was intoxicated when he boarded a bus 147 near Tekka Market at Little India at approximately 7pm – Moorthy was not wearing his mask properly.
The victim, a 33-year-old bus driver, then told him to wear his mask properly, to which he got upset and used vulgarities at the driver.
The police were alerted to the incident and arrived at the scene about 15 minutes later.
Reoffended after reoffending
On 29 May, Moorthy was intoxicated again near Tekka Market and the police were informed after he was seen shouting and spewing vulgarities as passers-by.
Sergeant Jayson Chong Jun Kit, 25-years-old, arrived at the scene with his colleagues and advised Moorthy to leave the area.
The officers escorted the man to make sure that he leaves the premises.
Moorthy was at the bus stop in front of Tekka Market when he continued to raise his voice at the police officers around him, getting more agitated and cursing at them.
He was subsequently arrested.
While inside the police car heading towards the Police Cantonment Complex, Moorthy used vulgarities on Sergeant Chong and threatened to kill him.
He later underwent a medical assessment to make sure that he was fit for detention at the Central Police Division, and he then flashed an obscene hand gesture at Special Constable Chezven Cheah Sin Shen, 20-years-old.
