ISLANDWIDE RAIDS AT PUBS, 14 SUSPECTED MEMBERS OF “SECRET SOCIETIES” ARRESTED

According to the Singapore Police Force, an operation was conducted islandwide to check on nightlife outlets.

  • The Base Bistro (401 Macpherson Road, Macpherson mall)
  • The Sleeping Giants (29 Sembawang Road)
  • SMLJ Pub (22 Circular Road)
  • Mama Chin Nonya Cafe (41 Circular Road)
  • Phorage (25 Church Street)

During the operation, at least 228 people were checked and 14 men were arrested for suspected members of secret societies.

The establishment was fined $300 after a staff failed to wear a mask.

13 people received fines of $1,000 each.

Penalties:

If they are found guilty to be a member of an unlawful society they can be jailed up to 3 years and/or fine SGD$5,000

For non-compliance with safe management measures under the COVID-19 offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

If they are caught by the Police for not wearing a mask or not wearing a mask properly they can be charged under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

Penalties include a fine of up to SGD$10,000 and jailed for up to six months.
