39-year-old Singaporean presenter Jade Seah, took to her Instagram page to call out the self-entitled behaviour of landed property owners who lay unfounded claims to public roads.
Seah shared on her Instagram Stories on 21 March that she had received a note on her car’s windshield from a purported landed homeowner, after parking along the public road within a private housing estate.
The note left for her, reads: “Please do not park here, let those who stay here, park here. Thank you.”
She had received the note despite parking her vehicle there legally on a road with no line markings, and she was also not obstructing the traffic or blocking any residents’ front gates.
Seah responded to the note and said that “you do not own the land outside your house, this is public property that anyone is at liberty to park at.”
She added that “with all due respect though, sir or madam, and also to all other homeowners who think you have priority or rights to the space in front of your house, I’m here to educate you that that is public space, and you have neither rights nor priority to make this request.”
In her next post, Seah revealed that because of incidents like this, her brother is afraid of parking on roads where he has been warned by the homeowners or had his van vandalised.
She revealed that her brother has had his van scratched in previous incidents, while she also had her tyres slashed as well as a huge “Z” scratched on her front bonnet.
Seah also shared that one homeowner also shouted at her from her porch for parking in “her lot”, shouting and screaming at her before slamming her front door.
She had politely asked the woman to come out and talk but the woman refused and continued shouting at her.
