A Japanese YouTuber based in Singapore, Ghib Ojisan, posted a video on his channel about a group of Japanese expats in Singapore cleaning rubbish across Singapore.

The group of expats started off their cleaning at East Coast Park before going on to cover areas such as Chinatown and the Japanese Garden.

Among the rubbish that they found at East Coast Park, which filled up more than 5 buckets, were things like a needle, a syringe, razor blades and a discarded wallet.

They were also seen checking out the toilets in Chinatown to clean but gave up because of the horrendous conditions, which was censored in the video.

However, despite picking up so much rubbish, one of the expats still said that compared to her hometown in Yokohama, Singapore is still cleaner.

High cost of living in S’pore

The expats spoke to Ghib Ojisan in a candid interview after the cleaning and shared about what it’s like for them living in Singapore.

One woman told him that her monthly expenses come up to almost $10,000, with the expats citing the rising rental costs as one of the reasons, and also their need to take care of their family.

However, despite the expensive cost of living, the expats were still happy to stay in Singapore, as they loved the mix of cultures here and how safe it is in Singapore, which is great for raising children.

Summing up the video, Ghib Ojisan shared that the expats managed to collect about 10 to 25kg of rubbish, as he urged Singaporeans to do their part to help keep the country clean.

He suggested taking a leaf from the expats and volunteering or donating to the organisations that clean the environment.
