A deadly outburst of jealousy has resulted in a fatal shooting in Thailand, after a man allegedly gunned down his former partner’s new boyfriend in a violent confrontation that has shocked local communities.
The incident took place in Khon Kaen province, where a 28-year-old suspect reportedly stormed into the home of his ex-girlfriend’s new partner and opened fire multiple times. The victim, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Authorities revealed that the attack occurred late in the evening, following a heated argument between the two men. Investigators later recovered eight 9mm bullet casings from the scene, pointing to the intensity of the shooting.
Jealousy and Anger Allegedly Fuelled the Attack
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect had been drinking at home prior to the incident. During that time, he allegedly became overwhelmed with jealousy upon thinking about his ex-girlfriend’s new relationship.
Unable to control his emotions, he reportedly retrieved a firearm obtained from the black market and enlisted the help of a 19-year-old acquaintance. The pair travelled together on a motorcycle to the victim’s residence, under the pretext of visiting a child.
Upon arrival, the suspect confronted the victim, and a verbal dispute quickly escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, he allegedly discharged his weapon eight times, fatally wounding the man before fleeing the scene.
Suspect Later Surrenders, Claims Accomplice Was Unaware
Following the shooting, the suspect and his companion escaped on the motorcycle. However, both individuals later turned themselves in to the police and handed over the weapon believed to have been used in the crime.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to carrying out the attack, stating that he had deceived his companion into providing transportation by claiming he needed to visit his child. The 19-year-old has since maintained that he had no knowledge of the suspect’s intentions.
Authorities are now pursuing charges against both individuals for their alleged roles in the case, including murder and possible conspiracy. Additional charges related to illegal firearm possession are also expected to be brought against the main suspect.
