Getting recruiters to be honest about the role
Not sure if anyone else has had the same experience as I had but how come getting information from recruiters like recruitxxx is like pulling teeth nowadays?
Context: Applied for those temp admin roles with a bunch of choices like location a/b/c/d and what i’d do is to apply, text them and let them know about the location or role I want specifically, and they always say yes it’s available + ask to speak to me over the phone.
Yet when I always get on the phone somehow this specific role has already been filled and they start pushing some other unrelated roles that I’m not interested in.
Sometimes even getting the exact location of the job from them is difficult. Isn’t that just such a waste of everyone’s time?
Recruiters please just be decent and not waste others time pls.

Recruiter’s perspective: They typically earn a cut when successful get someone to work for the client’s company. So is their interest to get people to filled a role not whether the job seeker best fit the role.
(Red/grey flag) company’s perspective: They want the job seeker who can do the most with the lowest asking price. So is their interest to appear as appealing as much as possible, even meaning sugar coating or outright being misleading in their job description to both the recruiters and job seekers.
While this is a shitty experience, I doubt your post will do any meaningful impact because is not their best interest to do so. I won’t discount any good recruiters out there who actually look out for job seekers and give them tips on how to succeed. The sea is rough the best you can do is..
- Avoid finding jobs from recruiters if possible, skip the middleman and try to apply direct to the company, either via their company website or job finding portals.
- Read on reviews, forums, Glassdoors, online posts on any potential red flags from the company.
- Prepare your interview, interviews are not just a test for employer but also for you to sus out the company. Is the interviewer happy with the company, why was the previous person left etc.
- Looking for your industry specific communities, I know SG developers have their own mini community on Telegram, ask them for experience and any red flag companies etc.
