8 individuals have been arrested by the Malaysian Police after they were found to be involved with the sale of fake vaccination certificates.
Johor police chief Commissioner Kamarul Zaman Mamat revealed that the individuals were working in private clinics and they were arrested in a span of two days. The suspects are between the ages of 24 to 72.
This is not the first incident that involved fake vaccination certs. Previously a doctor was arrested after selling over 1,900 copies of fake vaccination certs which he profited almost RM1 million.
The Police added that the 8 individuals have been operating for about a month and at least 30 people have bought the fake certifications. Each copy is sold between the prices of RM350(SGD$112) to RM650(SGD$208).
The Malaysian authorities take a serious view on those who are profiteering from such activities and they will continue to catch those doing so.
The police commissioner is urging those who bought the fake vaccine certs to step forward
“We would like to announce that anyone who has purchased fake vaccination certificates without being immunised, surrender yourselves to the police stations,”
The Malaysian Police said that such illegal activities are operated by syndicates and it is happening across the country.
The reason why one would purchase these certificates is due to a rule where only full vaccinated individuals are allowed to dine in and enter shopping malls or shops.
