According to Lim Lau Long, 62, his neighbor in Taman Desa Cemerlang woke up to find his car on fire on his front porch in the early hours of February 2. Upon investigation, the neighbor found a note with Lim’s home address and his son’s name written on it.

Lim, a welder, and his wife, Chan Siew Lin, 57, a home-based tailor, have not been in contact with their son, Lim Vie Liang, 36, for over ten years. They cut ties with him after he repeatedly borrowed money from loan sharks for gambling and used their home as collateral.

The couple expressed their helplessness over the situation, as they have no idea what their son is up to and have not heard from him since he was working in Singapore as a chicken rice seller. They also emphasized that they have cut ties with him and urged the loan shark to take up the debt issue with him directly.

The incident has caused tension between the couple and their neighbors, who are worried about being targeted next. The couple has been taking turns staying up at night to prevent any further unwanted incidents.

Tebrau MP Jimmy Puah’s special officer, Jalex Lee, has offered to assist the couple by following up with the police and requesting more patrols in the area.

In conclusion, this incident highlights the serious consequences of getting involved with loan sharks and the lasting impact it can have on families and communities. It is crucial to seek help and find alternative ways to manage debts instead of resorting to illegal moneylenders.
