A shocking attempted armed robbery at a petrol station near the Second Link Expressway in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, ended fatally when a man was later found dead with multiple gunshot wounds at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA).
According to Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar, the incident unfolded around 12.10am on Thursday (3 July), when four masked men wielding machetes targeted a vehicle parked at the petrol station. CCTV footage of the brazen attack, which has gone viral online, shows the assailants smashing the car’s windows.
In a dramatic turn, one of the vehicle’s passengers retaliated by firing several gunshots, forcing the robbers to abandon their assault. Three suspects fled to their getaway car, while the fourth escaped on foot.
Body Dumped at Hospital Sparks Murder Investigation
Approximately 90 minutes after the attempted robbery, hospital staff at HSA alerted police to the discovery of a man’s body with gunshot wounds left at the hospital entrance by two unidentified individuals in a dark-coloured vehicle. The deceased, identified as a 42-year-old local man with a criminal record, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen, confirmed by a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine whether the dead man was part of the robbery gang. Three suspects, aged 30 to 40, were apprehended later that day in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur, during a joint police operation. Among the items seized were a Glock 19 pistol upper receiver, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, bullet casings, a black car believed to have been used in the crime, and a licensed firearm permit belonging to one of the suspects, a personal bodyguard.
Public Safety Assured as Police Urge Against Speculation
The case is being investigated under murder, rioting with weapons, and firearms-related offences. Comm Kumar stressed that Johor remains safe and called on the public to avoid spreading misinformation about this violent crime on social media.
