One of the greatest sportsmen in Singapore, swimmer Joseph Schooling has gotten himself into the limelight after confessing to taking cannabis while he was overseas.
Previously, Joseph Schooling deferred his national service to train or compete overseas. However, since the case came to light, such privileges have been revoked and Schooling will no longer be able to be absent from NS.
The Fallout
According to CNA, Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) investigated the incident and handed the case to SAF.
Joseph Schooling will be placed under regular urine test for the next 6 months. SAF said those who tested positive for drugs during the 6 months regime will be charged. MINDEF has since issued a warning letter to Schooling on the consequences of drugs.
In his Facebook Story, Joseph Isaac Schooling said:
I am sorry that my actions have caused hurt to everyone around me, especially to my family and the young fans who look up to me. I gave in to a moment of weakness after going through a very tough period of my life. I demonstrated bad judgment and I am sorry. I made a mistake and I’m responsible for what I’ve done. I will make amends and right what is wrong. I won’t let you down again.
