South Korean TV network issued an apology for using insensitive images to stereotype countries at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The broadcaster, MBC, used images of pizza to describe Italy, salmon to describe Norway and even a photo of an upheaval to describe Haiti when their athletes were entering the stadium for the opening ceremony.
The network also referred to the Marshall Islands as “once a nuclear test site for the United States”, and Syria as the country that has “a civil war going on for 10 years”.
After much criticism received online, MBC finally issued an apology to the countries involved and their viewers.
