A Lamborghini Gallardo caught fire while travelling along the East Coast Parkway (ECP) on Thursday evening, drawing the attention of passing motorists and prompting a swift response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Videos and photos circulating on social media showed the bright green luxury sports car engulfed in flames by the roadside. Firefighters were seen working quickly to contain the blaze, which appeared to have originated from the rear section of the vehicle.
The rear of the Lamborghini, where the engine is located, sustained significant fire damage, with images showing extensive charring after the flames were extinguished.
Fire Broke Out Near Still Road South Exit
According to SCDF, emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 5.20pm on 23 July. The fire occurred on the ECP heading towards Changi, just before the Still Road South exit.
Firefighters deployed a water jet to extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. The operation was completed without any reported injuries, and no other vehicles were believed to have been affected by the incident.
Authorities have yet to determine what caused the fire. Investigations are currently ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the engine compartment catching fire.
Luxury Sports Cars Can Also Be Vulnerable
Although Lamborghini vehicles are renowned for their high-performance engineering and powerful engines, mechanical faults or electrical issues can still result in vehicle fires under certain circumstances. However, it remains too early to determine whether either factor played a role in this incident.
The Gallardo, one of Lamborghini’s most recognisable models, features a mid-mounted engine positioned behind the driver and passenger. This explains why the fire was concentrated at the rear of the vehicle.
Motorists who witness a vehicle fire are generally advised to keep a safe distance, avoid attempting to extinguish large fires themselves, and immediately contact emergency services. If it is safe to do so, occupants should exit the vehicle as quickly as possible and move away from the scene.
The incident caused concern among motorists travelling along the expressway during the evening period, though no injuries were reported. Authorities are expected to release further details if investigations uncover the cause of the fire.
