Watching a National Day fireworks display is often a joyful and anticipated event for families to come together and celebrate. However, what was supposed to be a memorable evening turned into a distressing experience for one family.
On August 9th, as the night sky lit up with colorful bursts of light, a young girl suffered a first-degree burn on her face, casting a shadow over the festivities.
Mum shares the harrowing encounter
The child’s mother, deeply concerned for her daughter’s well-being, took to social media to share their unfortunate encounter.
In a TikTok video posted by @rsutopia on August 12th, the mother detailed how her daughter had allegedly been hit by a “fireworks spark” during the display.
This video, uploaded by the user “@rsutopia,” quickly gained traction online. Although the video didn’t mention where the incident occured, based on the background in the TikTok video, it appeared to have taken place at Our Tampines Hub, which was one of 5 places in the heartlands with fireworks displays.
While capturing the fireworks display on her phone, the young girl suddenly let out a cry of pain. Startled and concerned, she turned her face towards the ground in pain.
The mother said that the family had positioned themselves further out from the fireworks, beyond the safe range demarcated for the fireworks display. The unexpected injury prompted the family to seek immediate medical attention.
Amidst their distress, security guards offered wet tissues to help alleviate the pain and prevent further damage.
An ambulance stationed nearby was directed to assist the family. Medical professionals on the scene diagnosed the young girl with a “first-degree burn,” a superficial injury that affects the outermost layer of the skin. Symptoms such as redness, swelling, tenderness, and pain were evident.
Treatment and Care
In an effort to provide relief, the family was given a water bottle and gauze to tend to the burn. The father also purchased aloe vera from a pharmacy to soothe the pain as the medical team thoroughly examined the girl’s condition before she was transported to receive further care.
The mother documented the distressing situation in the TikTok video, revealing the orange discoloration on her daughter’s cheeks and a reddish patch on her forehead above her right eye.
A distinctive orange streak on the ground near where the girl had been standing caught the mother’s attention. She speculated that this could be evidence of a “fireworks spark” that had inadvertently struck her daughter.
Here is what she said (SIC)
We were traumatized and ran around to find a medic. A big event but the medic station is unknown by many. People seem in disbelief hearing my explanation. No other casualties reported .. I hope that no one else was hurt , especially children
Take a look around .. what could have hurt my girl other than the firework. It could have been worse as “the firework” hit near her eye . Alhamdulillah it’s didn’t
