A 36-year-old man turned from being a helper for a loan shark to collect an ATM card from a debtor to a criminal who used force on the police. Zhou Weili was jailed 10 months and ordered to pay a fine of $90,000 for his actions.
The police had spotted him in his car during his loan shark runner stint and had asked him to step out of his car. Instead of stepping out, he continued driving, causing one police officer, who was holding his car door, to lose his footing and fall to the ground. The officer, who suffered superficial injuries, and his partner continued chasing after Zhou.
While trying to flee, Zhou slammed his car into the bumper and sides of two other nearby cars. It was revealed in court that Zhou became a loanshark runner after he could not pay off his debts owed to a loan shark known as Dominique, and he has been working for Dominique since December 2015.
