About 20 delivery riders were sent to a debtor’s home on 1 April, allegedly by a loan shark, as they delivered food (cash on delivery) to the customer, who didn’t order.
The incident happened at 28 Jalan Lateh.
The debtor was allegedly a maid who lives with the family in the landed home, and she was faced with about 20 delivery riders at her doorstep.
One of the homeowners was not at home; with only her husband, child, mother-in-law, and the maid at home at the time, according to AsiaOne.
The homeowner said that the riders didn’t make things difficult for them after realizing that it was a prank order, and they then left.
She then received a call from the loan shark, telling her that her Indonesian maid owed them money.
The maid reportedly told her employer that she had borrowed money to pay for her mother’s medical treatment back home.
The homeowner reportedly said that the maid had thought that it was just a regular loan that can be repaid slowly, thinking that Singapore was very safe.
A police report has since been filed by the family and investigations are ongoing.
