I made SGD 1.4 million last year
Male, early 40s, Sinagporean.
My first post; perhaps my only post.
It’s 2am n I’m sitting at my desk watching the US market, came across this site, read a couple interesting stories, n figured I’d write something.
Most rants here are about money or relationships. I’m single, but have good relationships with all who matter to me. Since I’m the top 1% of earners in Singapore (by income, not by wealth), let’s talk money.

For perspective, I’m a pretty ordinary guy. I grew up living in a HDB, I went to a neighbourhood school. I used to always fly Scoot.
Now, I have 2 cars (nice but not flashy cars), go on vacation about once a month, and still fly scoot (but only for 1-2hr trips).
NO ONE around me, not even my parents know I earn so much. Only my guinea pig, IRAS, and my accountant knows this actual figure. About 500k came from swing trading, specifically buying leveraged ETFs. And 900k is my income.
I have a graduate degree, but that’s not why I’m earning this much. In fact, my regret was not throwing myself into the real world sooner — more internships, more mentorships, more international work experience. Yes, NS sets u back by 2yrs (3yrs in my time) — don’t use it as an excuse, because growing up in SG gives you immensely more privileges than NS takes away.

Here’s my takeaway.
1. Enjoy your life, make all kinds of mistakes — finanicial mistakes, relationship mistakes, career mistakes. You can walk away from most mistakes when u’re below 30.
2. Money changes your mindset — u will not get happier earning $4k/day. But you will have abundantly more options, and will probably be more fulfilled inside.
3. You most valuable commodity is your time & who you spend it with. But don’t forget (1).
Gd luck to you all.
Here are what netizens think:
- I read the title, read the first sentence and then saw how long the post was. Didn’t bother to read the rest. Immediately knew it must be some guy with no friends trying to brag about himself to strangers online lmao. Lőṣẹr. Actual rich people don’t bother to do such things. In Singapore, everyone is a millionaire. Just by purchasing a property and a car and paying off all of those over years, including paying for vacations and all of that other life stuff. All of that combined, we would have paid over a million in our life time. That’s how I like to see it.
- Not need to brag. Stay humble. You are fortune to have good health and family. Hope your life continue to be in good light for you.
- Money is important in everyday life but not everyone wants to live luxuriously. Some just prefer to have the simple things in life and still be happy with themselves or with their loved ones. I mean good for you but yeah, different people look for happiness in a different way
