28 year old Subhas Govin Prabhakar Nair, a local rapper known as Subhas Nair to the masses, is set to plead guilty for trying to nurture negativity on race and religion.
He will be set to plead guilty on the given date of 29 April 2022.
Four charges were given to Nair for his role in promoting of ill feelings towards race and religion on four occasions which happened between July 2019 and March 2021.
The four occasions
Occasion one: Happened on 29 July 2019, when Nair did a rap video and posted it online and was given two year conditional warning by officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
The conditions stated that if he re-offended, he would be prosecuted for the offence this time round on top of his reoffence.
Occasion two: Happened on 25 July 2020 when Nair was alleged to have wrote the caption below on his Instagram and it reads:
“If two Malay Muslims made a video promoting Islam and saying the kind of hateful things these Chinese Christians said, ISD would have been at the door before they even hit ‘upload’.”
This was apparently in response to a video posted by Chinese Christians who commented with hate on other communities.
Occasion three: This time round, Nair is accused of promoting negative feelings between Chinese and Indians after he commented on a fatal brawl which took place in July 2019 at Orchard Towers.
He had said claimed that a Chinese man who was one of the accused in the case of the fatal brawl had gotten away with a lenient punishment from authorities because the man is Chinese.
With regards to this incident, this is what he allegedly wrote on his Instagram:
“Calling out racism and Chinese privilege = two year conditional warning and smear campaign in the media. Actually conspiring to murder an Indian man = Half the sentence and ‘You’re having a baby soon right? Boy or girl?’ Do you actually think a brown person would get asked these type of questions? This place is just not for us”.
Occasion four: This happened on 11 Mar 2022 while he was still under investigation for offences in occasion three.
Nair had allegedly attempted to promote negativity between Chinese and Indians again as he had displayed a cartoon bearing the same texts as in occasion three.
Showed up with sister in court
Nair showed up in court with his sister, Preeti Nair, known to the masses as PreetiPls.
He was charged in court for his offence in occasion one as his conditional warning given then stated that if he reoffended he would be charged for the first offence.
In court, he wore a shirt with the image of an inmate, Nagaenthran, who is currently on death row and also pointed to his image.
Nair is out on a $10,000 bail.
