A dramatic rescue operation was carried out on May 30 after a bus and lorry collided with another bus in Loyang Avenue, leaving two drivers injured. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the incident at around 9:30 am, near the junction of Loyang Avenue and Pasir Ris Drive 1.
A photo and video of the scene showed a lorry sandwiched between two SBS Transit buses, highlighting the severity of the collision. Firefighters from Changi Fire Station and Tampines Fire Station rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped drivers.

The 69-year-old bus driver was found trapped in his seat, and firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free him. The dashboard and steering wheel had been forced inwards due to the impact of the collision, and a firefighter positioned himself inside the bus to ensure the driver’s safety during the rescue operation.
Both the trapped bus driver and the 31-year-old lorry driver were taken conscious to Changi General Hospital, where they received medical treatment for cuts and abrasions. Fortunately, about 40 passengers from both buses were evacuated before SCDF’s arrival and were not hurt.
SBS Transit has stated that it is assisting with police investigations and has been trying to contact the lorry driver to extend its support. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution and vigilance on the roads. It also highlights the bravery and quick thinking of the firefighters who responded to the incident, ensuring the safe rescue of the trapped drivers.
