Loss: 19-Year-Old Law Student Dies in Car Accident, Family Seeks Witnesses
The Singaporean community is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Dorothy Tan, a bright and promising young woman who was set to begin her law studies at Singapore Management University (SMU) this August. Tragically, Tan’s life was cut short in a fatal car accident along Joo Chiat Road near i12 Katong on June 8.
A Facebook post on July 4 shared a poster put up around the area, appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have CCTV footage to come forward and assist the police in their investigation. Tan’s family is seeking answers and hoping to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the Singapore Police Force, the accident involved a van and a pedestrian, and Tan was conveyed to the hospital unconscious, where she subsequently passed away. A 24-year-old male van driver is currently assisting with investigations, which are ongoing.
In a heart-wrenching interview with Shin Min Daily News, Tan’s mother expressed her family’s desire for forgiveness, stating that they believe no one would intentionally cause an accident. “We believe that things would be difficult for the driver, too. Even if he has to face legal consequences for his actions, we want to tell him we forgive him,” she said.
Tan was a former student of Raffles Institution and had completed her A-Level examinations before being accepted into SMU’s School of Law. Her academic achievements and promising future were cut short by this tragic accident, leaving her family, friends, and community in shock and grief.
As the investigation continues, Tan’s family and loved ones are left to mourn the loss of a bright and talented young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
