According to a media release, a 48-year-old man was found guilty of assault after he was caught abusing his maid repeatedly.
It was reported the man has slapped his maid and even thrown hot water on her which caused her to suffer burn injuries. The maid has even attempted to kill herself by jumping off from the man’s unit to end her suffering.
On 26 Nov 2020, the accused has been found guilty for 4 counts of assaults. He was also found guilty of committing a rash act by throwing a bottle filled with water at his maid. It was said that the abuse started after the man and his family were not satisfied with her work.
The maid has been restrained and had left Singapore.
The man is currently out on bail for $3,000 and he is set to return to court on 07 Jan 2021 for sentencing.
If convicted, he could face a jailed term up to 10 years, fined or caned for voluntarily causing hurt to others.
