A woman caught her maid having intercourse with her lover in the master bedroom of her flat in Canberra Street, and the police later arrested the man.
The employer, Shalini, lives with her husband and their 4-year-old son; along with her maid, who had been with them for three years.
She said she didn’t expect anything like this to ever happen in her home, and spoke to STOMP saying that there would be people around constantly because her husband works from home, but on that day, he had to leave the house to run errands and she had to visit the temple.
Brought lover home and slept on employers’ bed
The incident happened on 11 September.
Shalini said that she told her maid to sleep in since it’s her day off, and she (the employer) then left the home before returning at about 11.45am.
She returned home from the temple and saw that her bedroom door was closed, and heard some “thumping” noises coming from her room.
Her maid then emerged from the room and apologised to her in Tamil, repeatedly saying sorry to her employer, whom she called “akka (sister)”.
Shalini said that she “immediately knew that there was another person in the room” and that she then saw a male stranger getting dressed and emerging from her master bedroom about 3 minutes later.
She held on to the door because she didn’t want the couple to escape, and was under such distress that she forgot what number to call for the police.
She eventually managed to contact her husband, who was about 5 minutes away from home.
Betrayal of trust
Shalini said that she was hurt because she treated the maid like family and trusted her, and would even buy her the same clothes, and regrets being too lenient with her.
She said that the maid and her boyfriend had been seeing each other for “some time” and that she confiscated her maid’s phone because she saw many videos of them being intimate with each other weekly.
There were also pictures of them behaving very intimately, and hugging and kissing each other, and she added that she believes this is the first time the maid had brought the man into their home.
Man arrested for trespass
The man was later arrested by the police for trespassing and taken to the police station, and Shalini and he husband had to go down to the station to give their statements.
She then booked a flight to send the maid home at about 8pm on the same day, lamenting how expensive it was but she didn’t care, she just wanted to be rid of her maid.
She then gave a shout-out and thanked the police.
The Singapore Police Force also confirmed that they received a call for help on 11 September at about 11.46am, and a 31-year-old man was arrested for wilful trespass.
At the time of writing, police investigations are ongoing.
