25-year-old Lisa Apriyanti was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment on 21 December after pleading guilty to 2 charges of theft.
The Indonesian maid had repeatedly taken her elderly employer’s ATM card and used it to withdraw money to send to her family in Indonesia as well as for her own expenses.
She had taken a total of $6.3k and has made no restitution thus far.
What happened?
Lisa began working for the 83-year-old victim back on 21 December 2021, earning a monthly salary of $700. Her job scope included taking care of the woman and doing housework at her employer’s flat in Hougang.
Between 11 September to 7 October this year, the maid went into her employer’s bedroom and stole her ATM card from a purse, and she withdrew a total of about $6,300 from a few ATMs.
The victim’s 53-year-old daughter discovered on 10 October that there were several withdrawals from her mother’s bank accounts that were unauthorised.
She then reported the incident to the police and Lisa was then arrested on 28 November.
